One Day Affair | Macau

We decided to go to Macau since it was only an hour away from Hong Kong via the TurboJet ferry. We then woke up early, hurried to the terminal, bought our tickets, passed through immigration, got our passports stamped then jumped into the ferry. I dozed off for a couple of minutes in the middle of the smooth trip.

The moment we alighted from the ferry and passed immigration checks, the doors opened and we found ourselves in one of China's Special Administrative Region, Macau. As we got ready to roam around the place, several kababayans approached us and offered to tour us for a minimal fee - one of their sidelines on their day off. But being the budget conscious that we are, we politely declined their offer. But they were persistent and still followed us as we were checking our maps and itinerary. Since we checked the internet beforehand and knew that we can easily go around, we again told them that we do not need their services and that we were adventurous and ready to get lost in Macau! So off we went to start the day's adventure.

Our goal for the day was to get to Fisherman’s Wharf, Lotus Square, Senado Square, Ruins of St. Paul, Macau Tower and enter a few casinos.

As we walked towards the most famous landmark in Macau, the Ruins of St. Paul, we passed by shops offering all sorts of beef jerky and they gave out samples for free taste. We eagerly picked everything that they offered. Taste was good, it was chewy, I liked the spicy ones. They were a bit oily though and before we reached the ruins, our lips were already glazed.

Casino-hopping was convenient because shuttle buses to casinos were available for free. Yes you read it right, for free! So you can go to as many casinos as you want and fill (or empty) your pockets.

The only frustration we had during our adventure was communication since very few locals can actually speak and understand English. Asking for directions, even from guards/police was pointless.
Macau Tower, standing at 233m is a famous bungee and sky jumping site. We could have dared to try it but it was a pain in the pocket at  MOP$1,488 (P7,800).
Mouth watering egg tarts, something to munch on while waiting to be transferred back to HK. An adventurous one day affair with Macau has ended.
